Frequently asked questions and card tips

CSP is presented as a strong-value first midtier travel card. It particularly suits: (1) cardholders starting to earn Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR); (2) travelers with at least one annual hotel stay, for whom using the $50 hotel credit leaves an effective $45 annual fee; and (3) frequent renters seeking primary rental CDW without a claim on personal auto insurance after a collision.

Many credit cards offer secondary rental coverage, requiring a claim with personal auto insurance first, which can affect premiums. CSP offers primary coverage: pay the entire rental with the card and decline the rental company's CDW, then submit an eligible damage or theft claim directly without using personal auto insurance.

CSP cardholders have two main high-value redemption methods: (1) Chase Travel bookings, with a 25% increase to a fixed 1.25 cents per point (10,000 points = $125), suitable for flights not available through transfers or lower-cost boutique hotels; (2) partner transfers, potentially exceeding 2.0 cents per point. World of Hyatt is highlighted: a 1:1 transfer for high-end resorts can provide 2.0¢-3.0¢ per point. United and Virgin Atlantic are other options for business-class flights.

The page describes Chase's well-known 5/24 rule: if the credit report shows at least 5 personal card accounts opened across banks in the past 24 months, including authorized-user accounts and excluding certain business cards, an application is declined. It recommends prioritizing CSP and other core Chase cards before reaching 5/24. It also describes CSP and CSR (Sapphire Reserve) as one family, with a Sapphire welcome reward available once within 48 months.
