The Platinum Card® from American Express

American Express Platinum Card
Welcome Offer

Personalized welcome offer: up to 175,000 MR points

Make $12,000 in eligible purchases within the first 6 months from account opening. Previous holders of Platinum, Schwab/Morgan Stanley Platinum or earlier versions may be ineligible. Your individual reward is disclosed after submitting the application but before accepting the card; it may be below the maximum or no offer may be available. Eligible net purchases on primary and additional cards are combined, after refunds/credits. Fees, interest, travelers checks, prepaid cards/reloads, gift cards, person-to-person transfers and cash equivalents do not qualify. Allow 8–12 weeks after qualification; the account must not be closed or past due at posting. Card-delivery or merchant-submission delays shorten the available period, and payments may take several days to restore spending capacity. Balance transfers, cardholding and account-opening/closing history also affect eligibility. Abuse/returns may result in frozen or reclaimed points and account closure. The offer applies only to the advertising channel shown, is nontransferable and may be changed/withdrawn at any time. No fixed end date is listed; MR values and redemption partners may change, and points are not fixed-value cash.

Decision considerations

Over the past 1 year, the highest publicly observed offer remained 175,000 points, personalized and dynamic rather than guaranteed for everyone, after $12,000 in spending within the first 6 months. Receiving 175k and being able to meet the spending requirement makes it the best time to apply. With a lower offer, such as 80k–125k, consider waiting or trying a different browsing environment.

Membership Rewards® value calculator

Net purchases on primary and additional cards are combined. Flights must be booked directly with passenger airlines or through Amex Travel; charter/private flights and flights included in tours, cruises or packages are excluded. Hotels must be prepaid through Amex Travel; modifications made directly with the hotel do not earn bonus points. Prepaid vacation rentals through AmexTravel.com separately earn 5X; modifications made directly with the management company do not qualify. This calculator covers only the listed flights, hotels and general purchases, not every travel channel. Cancellations/credits are deducted. Service fees, ticket change/refund fees, hotel incidentals/group bookings/events, interest and cash equivalents are excluded; portions paid with MR points earn no points. Merchant classification and third-party/wallet data may affect bonus eligibility; offers do not stack. The account must remain open, and abuse may result in loss of benefits. Frequently asked questions and card tips

The Platinum annual fee is $895. The card offers up to $2,994 annually in credits, including $600 for hotels, $400 for Resy dining, $320 for Uber, $300 for digital entertainment, $300 for lululemon, $300 for Equinox, $219 for CLEAR+ and $200 for airline incidental fees. These benefits are highly divided across months or quarters, require manual enrollment, and have merchant and usage restrictions. Frequent long-haul travelers who stay at luxury hotels and whose regular spending closely matches credit merchants can readily cover card costs through FHR benefits, lounge access and credits. With less frequent travel, everyday points earning alone may not cover the fee. Before applying, inventory the benefits you can consistently use.

MR points' core advantage is flexible 1:1 transfers to airline and hotel partners, such as ANA, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Air Canada Aeroplan, Singapore Airlines and British Airways. Transfers to eligible airline programs for international long-haul Business or First Class tickets can often produce potential redemption values of 1.5¢ to 2.0¢ or more per point. Direct statement redemption through Cover Your Charges gives only about 0.6¢, offering poor value. Actual mileage redemption value depends on award-seat availability and the airline program's dynamic taxes and fees.

Find both enrollment links on the Card Benefits page in the official American Express app or web account. Link your existing loyalty membership numbers to register; activation typically takes a few business days. • Hilton Gold: daily food-and-beverage credits at U.S. hotels, complimentary daily continental breakfast outside the United States, and room upgrades subject to availability. • Marriott Gold: late checkout at 2 p.m. subject to availability, room upgrades subject to availability excluding suites, and 25% bonus points. Marriott Gold does not include complimentary breakfast, which is available only to Platinum Elite and above.

American Express Platinum offers two authorized-user tiers: 1. Paid Additional Platinum Card, currently $195 per card annually: separate lounge access including Centurion and PPS, separate Hilton Gold and Marriott Gold enrollment eligibility, and a separate Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application-fee credit of up to $120 every 4 years. 2. Complimentary Companion Platinum Card: a spending card only, without premium travel benefits such as lounge access or hotel Gold status. Shared benefits: all annual spending credits, including $600 for hotels, $400 for Resy, $320 for Uber, $300 for digital entertainment and $200 for airline incidentals, are shared across the entire primary and additional-card account. Additional-card spending counts toward the primary account limit; extra cards do not double credits.
